[Please don't say that I can just use Open Office. I love everything Open Source but for work reasons I absolutely have to use Word 2007 etc. due to issues with docx files and macros that only work in Word that are work issued and have no OO equivalent.]
This one program is causing me to dual boot as I’m almost over my Linux learning curb and I really just want to abandon Windows forever. Is running it through WINE or a Virtual Box the best option in terms of simplicity and efficiency? Many thanks
Wubi?? I don’t want to run Ubuntu from within windows, quite the opposite… I’m already using 8.04. Trust me I’ve investigated the options and unless I devote several months of programming to create that one little addition to MS Word in OO (and my programming skills are nonexistant) I can’t get around the problem without using Word. Simple question: Is WINE or VB better for my situation?

No need to reboot any more.
Ubuntu 8, released yesterday CAN run as an application under Windows using Wubi.
TIP: Learn how to write Macros in OO and re-write the MS-Office ones, your company will think you are a “Star”!!!

If you often work in Office, and you use Linux for all other work than both solutions would save you much time that you would otherwise spend in rebooting.
Office will work flawlessly inside Virtual Box but you will still need hard drive space for Windows installation and thus Windows license (I think that OEM license is not transferable). Virtual machine will also need some RAM while running, enough for Windows and Office, but this probably will not be a problem on any relatively modern PC.
In WINE you will probably experience problems but you should try if it works for you. Look at
Advantage, no hard disk space for Windows, no Windows license, less RAM used while running application, no need to wait for Windows to start inside virtual machine.
Hope this helps.
