Home based online marketing businesses are becoming more and more popular. Many of these business owners are coming into the realization that they need an assistant. They want an assistant but may not have the space necessary to have one on site, or they just don’t want to deal with all of the management, payroll, taxes, benefits and other responsibilities associated with having an employee. In many cases they may have jobs every once in a while that require the help of an assistant and cannot justify having an employee.
This is where a virtual assistant comes to the rescue. A virtual assistant can do everything a regular assistant can do. They can handle phone calls, ordering, typing up and creating reports. They simply handle those tasks electronically via the internet rather than physically being in the office. Virtual assistants also have the option of being flexible. They can be hired on a full time, part time, or per project basis.
Just about any service you would normally require an assistant to handle can be done by a virtual assistant. Really the only except is those services requiring a physical presence in the office. For example, a virtual assistant can set appointments and answer the phone. However they would not be able to greet customers. They could create and type up reports. They can even scan documents and transcribe notes. However, they cannot file them away in a physical filing cabinet.
There are a number of advantages and disadvantages when it comes to using a virtual assistant with your online marketing business. The first is pay. Virtual assistants do not have benefits, paid sick-days, personal-days, tax withholding and you do not have to pay social security portions for them, unless that is part of the contract. Virtual assistants do not require office space. You do not need to have a telephone, office space, or computer equipment for their use. They can be hired on a full time, exclusive, part time, or contract basis.
Some of the disadvantages include not being physically present which means there are a number of things that they cannot handle for you. They cannot help you greet your customers, watch the office or handle filing duties for you. They cannot deliver packages or handle a variety of other jobs that require a physical presence in the office. They may or may not be more expensive on a per hour rate than hiring and adding someone on your staff.
Your online marketing business may also be taking a risk. There are no standards for virtual assistants. You should check reference as you must be able to trust the person you are working with. After all they are going to hold the documents and customer information as well as your business information.
There are many advantages and disadvantages when it comes to using a virtual assistant for your online marketing business. Whether or not the advantages outweigh the disadvantages depends on the individual business situation and the needs of your company. You can save on some of the benefits but may need to pay a greater per hour fee. You do not have to provide office space or equipment. You may or may not be getting someone who is a professional and holds things in confidence.
To your journey on the road to online marketing business success!
