Being able to support yourself working at home and cultivating one of your passions is highly desirable nowadays. In a world where new video games are created every single week, gaming companies are always in need of people to test their future releases, before they hit the market.
Just imagine what would happen if people spent money on games that have bugs in the system or that cannot be completed with a specific character. That’s right, people would stop buying that video game and the publisher company would face great financial losses.
Because of that, people that are willing to work at home and test video games are needed. A freelance game tester’s job is to make sure that every character, weapon or map works properly, so the buyer won’t experience any problems while playing.
Being able to set your own working schedule and do something that you like may sound great, but it is not always the case. Freelance game testers are sometimes asked to go through an entire game in a matter of weeks or even days, so working on a tight schedule may be mandatory from time to time.
Even though a situation like this requires hard work, most game testers are looking forward to it, as it provides a great experience that will help them in the future. The truth is that big companies are always seeking testers that have done this kind of job before, and the salary matches their abilities.
Despite the things that scam websites say, beginner game testers do not make $200/hour. When first entering this industry, a freelance game tester will make about $10-$15 an hour. As time goes by and more experience is gained, testers usually hit the $40, $50 or even $60 an hour mark, but achieving this requires a lot of work and persistence (even though this may be just a part time job).
